The Beers...

Seasonal Beers:

Kolsch

Legend has it that true Kolsch-style beer can only be brewed within sight of the enormous cathedral in Cologne, Germany; but this delicately constructed blond ale is a favorite here at Herkimer. Semi-dry, light and crisp, this beer is a wonderful summertime refresher.

Dortmunder

A golden lager both less dry and less bitter than our Pilsner, this brew fits the bill for beer drinkers looking for something simple and good. Hailing from the city of Dortmund, this style of beer is sometimes called “Export”.

Sky Pilot Kellerbier

This unfiltered continental Pilsner won gold medal at “The Great American Beer Festival” in 2006. Our Kellerbier which literally means “cellar beer”, balances moderate bitterness and noble type hop aroma and flavor with a malty, slightly sweet, medium body.

Maibock

A lightly colored but not so lightly made lager, this brew has many of the characteristics of traditional back beers but is golden in color and has a more assertive bitterness.

Gose Speziell Weizen - New!

Gose is an oddball style of North German ale that is sort of a cross between a Belgian Wit and a Berliner Weisse. It’s brewed with 1/2 wheat malt, spiced with coriander. The fermentation is via ale yeast spiked with lactobacillus, so the beer has a definite tartness to it. Lastly, an addition of sea salt gives it a nice roundness and an interesting if slight saltiness.

Toolers Weiss

Our popular south German-style wheat beer is light and refreshingly different. Unfiltered, it retains a full complement of yeasty haze and features a strong hints of banana and clove that results naturally form fermentation.

Dunkel Weiss

This darker wheat beer pours a cloudy mohogany color and retains a thin, creamy head. With a touch of residual sweetness and the addition of subtle caramel notes, our Dunkel Weiss is very well-balanced and finishes with a refreshing, full flavored taste.

Vienna Country Bier

A lighter red lager broadly in the style of an Austrian country beer. Lightly roasted malts and sparing use of hops gives this brew a refreshingly simple palate.

Alt

Copper-colored and hoppy, this beer is most easily compared to a German form of a pale ale. Popular around Dusseldorf, the name means simply “old” and recalls a time before Germany made primarily lagers. This beer features a high bitterness and aroma characteristic of generous additions of hops to the brew.

Oktoberfest

A seasonal version of our Marzen Lager, we brew a batch or two of this each fall to commemorate the great Munich Oktoberfest. Reddish, malty and on the sweeter side.

Bock

A full and malty brown lager brewed traditionally in spring to celebrate the coming of warmer weather. This beer is one of the berwer’s favorites.

Doppelbock

Our rarest offering. This brown lager brings to bear the full brunt of roasted malt flavors and aroma. Sweet and full bodied, this beer goes quickly when available.

Schwarz Bier

German for "black beer", our Schwarz is a very refreshing and soul lifting beer - a great alternative for the winter. Especially when you are looking for a "lighter" beer, but one with depth of colour and taste.
